77 Prints bio picture

So you want to know about me?

Let's start with the basics: my name is Clare and I live in Dallas. Here are a few random facts that might help you understand who I am...

- Received my BA in Art from Rhodes College but begged them to say "Art History" for my parents' benefit when I graduated. No dice.

- Wrote my senior thesis on this painting during my junior year while everyone else was in Florida on Spring Break. 11 years later and I'm still bitter.

- Interned at a small gallery where I was privileged enough to have works by Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and Lewis Hine at my fingertips. Got valuable first hand experience on how to deal with a certain shipping service when they destroyed a rare painting in transit to another gallery.

- Would give anything for the chance to be a concert photographer for a summer or twelve.

{ rockstars! }

She’s not a rockstar in the traditional sense, but she might as well be… OPRAH! Yes, you have to spell her name in CAPS with EXCLAMATION POINTS because it’s OPRAH! She was filming her show at the State Fair on Monday, but would you believe that she made a surprise appearance on Sunday with Gayle (GAYLE!) at the Fried Butter stand? My friend Nancy and I happened to be polishing off some sausages on sticks and beer (is 10:30 AM too early for such meals? I didn’t think so.) when we decided to head towards the stand in question to try Fried Birthday Cake (I know, it sounds vile). There appeared to be some kind of commotion in the vicinity of the stand, which I initially thought was a fight because I could see police everywhere. Turns out they were trying to clear a safe path for the divine Miss O and her BFF Gayle – and we just happened to be in the perfect spot to see it all go down. Oprah and Gayle went up to the stand and tried the fried butter – which they both loved – and then she walked around handing out coupons and shaking hands with the crowd. You can see how close we were below – OMG! OPRAH!

And now for some real rockstars – U2! As you may recall, I already saw the opening show of this tour in Chicago, but last night they came through Dallas so I got a second chance to see my favorite Irish buddies. The show was at the brand new Cowboys Stadium ( or Jerryworld as I call it ), a venue which has come under harsh criticism for having less than stellar sound inside. There was practically bloodshed at the George Strait show which was the first concert they hosted. Tales of echos, sound delays, reverb – not good. So I was hoping last night would be better, as they’ve had ample time to figure out this issue. Alas, there were still some pretty significant issues. I couldn’t hear the bass at all for the first half of the show and friends who had seats higher up in the stadium said the echo was terrible. Bad Jerry Jones! Bad! This stadium is state of the art in every sense of the word, I’m disappointed that they’ve failed in this critical area. That said, our seats were SO amazing and I really enjoyed the show, sound issues and all. I still have to give Chicago the gold star between the two, just for the beautiful setting and vibe of the whole show. But man, did we have great seats last night. Witness:
